Position

The Landscape Service Worker 1 Lead performs a number of duties related to the maintenance and construction of a variety of hard and soft landscape features. Work may be performed on North Campus, as well as other campus locations.

Please note, hours of work are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday

Duties

Specific Responsibilities (10%):
  • Reports attendance
  • In consultation with the Manager, ensures that the operational needs are met
  • Assists with completion of accident, incident reports and WCB forms
  • Assists Manager to ensure that all staff are properly trained in WHMIS, equipment operation, Division Standard Operating Procedures
  • May as a member of the QA Inspection Team take part in the inspections of the services provided by the staff in their area as well as contractors providing services to landscaped areas assigned to them to ensure they are maintained to the specified standard
  • Takes the required action to correct any unsatisfactory conditions
  • Provide feedback to MFS, SFS, Quality Assurance Coordinator and area staff
  • Supplies equipment and key
  • Assists in maintaining an effective inventory control system for general and first aid supplies and equipment
  • Assists in ensuring equipment is operated and maintained as per supplier procedures. That an inventory of all equipment assigned to an area is current
Ensures keys are logged in/signed out for their team Additional Responsibilities (10%):
  • Provides guidance, coordination, task scheduling & problem solving, to other MWl's in area
  • Monitors and issues keys, supplies, and equipment
  • Acts as a contact between students, staff, visitors, and is responsible for the general upkeep of hard and soft landscaped areas
  • Acts as a resource to staff under their guidance, ensures that staff have the tools, training, and direction necessary to provide services consistent with the Division's mission. May provide input to the Manager Facility Services on performance of duties by staff within their area of responsibility
Other Responsibilities (80%):
  • Reviews current practices and recommends changes to Manager
  • Reports on equipment inventory and condition in Area
  • Maintenance- Soft landscape areas as per standards outlined in the Landscape Management Plan
Required to perform regular duties of Landscape Services Worker 1 - Grounds.
  • Maintenance- Hard landscape areas as per standards outlined in the Landscape Management Plan

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education- High School Grade 12
  • Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Horticulture Diploma or Journeyman Landscape Gardener License
  • First Aid Certificate
  • WHMIS Certificate
  • Excellent understanding of University Standards for Grounds
