HDR is currently seeking to hire a Control Systems Designer / EIT to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in Toronto, Burlington, or Richmond Hill, ON. This individual will support HDR’s Control Systems and Operational Technology Cybersecurity practice which includes full-service capabilities. Our practice provides assessment, planning, design, automation programming/configuration, testing & commissioning, and maintenance for control systems in multiple industries.

The Control Systems Designer / EIT will work under the direction of a Senior Control Systems Engineer as part of a team responsible for designing complex industrial and building control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. This position requires coordination with multidiscipline design teams, and participation in the development of control system construction documents for projects in multiple market sectors including water/wastewater; data centres; food & beverage; general industrial, transportation, technology, media & telecom, healthcare, research, and life sciences.

This individual should be self-motivated with attention to detail and an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound control system designs.

  • Assist with the development of biddable and technically accurate control system construction documents including P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts and wiring diagrams, installation details, loop drawings, operational sequences and technical specifications.
  • Utilizing CADD software including the following products: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Visio for control system designs.
  • Assist with selection and specification of process instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment.
  • Assist with the development of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications.
  • Assist with system testing and commissioning activities.
  • Reviewing supplier submittals, responding to RFIs, conducting Field Observations on construction sites and developing reports.
  • Reporting project status, performance, and quality updates to the Control Systems Section Manager.
    • Exposure to multiple market sectors and core services of our global control systems program.
    • Training and development to build skillset to serve as market sector and core service subject matter expert (SME).
    • Serve as Engineer of Record in responsible charge for the development of biddable and technically accurate control system construction documents.
    • Advancement to Control Systems Engineer.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or Control Systems related field.
