Position Summary: Student Accessibility and Achievement is looking to hire a McGill student to lead a group tutoring session for the following courses: MacDonald Campus: AEMA 102 - Calculus 2 AEPH 114 - Introductory Physics 2 FDSC 230 - Organic Chemistry LSCI 230 - Intro to Microbiology Downtown Campus: ECON 208 - Microeconomics ECON 310 - Intro to Behavioural Economics LING 201 - Intro to Linguistics PHGY 210 - Mammalian Physiology 2 MATH 141 - Calculus 2 MATH 236 Algebra 2 MGCR 236 - Managerial Economics MGCR 271 - Business Statistics As a PALs Peer Leader, you will be responsible for facilitating a weekly peer-assisted learning session that gives participants an opportunity to review learned material, ask questions, engage in group activities and review difficult concepts. Under the supervision of the Learner Support Specialist, you will teach study skills and strategies tailored to the course needs. You will get the opportunity to engage participants in self-reflective learning and academic-centered habits of mind that will encourage students to become more independent and confident in their academic abilities, all while applying evidence-based practices to facilitate and support student learning. You will be responsible for preparing small-group activities, facilitating a group of up to 15 students, reporting on sessions and attending 4 training sessions/meetings with your supervisor throughout the term to discuss next steps and support material for the program. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3 (Advanced) on a scale of 0-4 Qualifications: Current McGill student Successfully completed AEMA 102, AEPH 114, FDSC 230, LSCI 230, ECON, ECON 310, LING 201, PHGY 210, MATH 141, MATH 236, MGCR 236, MGCR 271 with an A- or higher Overall CGPA of at least 3.2 Experience supporting peers through tutoring, mentoring, peer study groups or TAship.
