OverviewAn exciting opportunity exists for a successful candidate to become a Mining Lead for Stantec’s Geotechnical Services Group in Ontario. Reporting to our Practice Leader, you will be responsible for leading the pursuit and delivery of excellent work to our mining clients. Accountable for the top line, you will lead the growth of the mining team within our Geotechnical Services group in Ontario while providing innovative project solutions with exceptional quality and execution that exceed client expectations.You will work closely with other leaders in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada to deliver professional services to clients, while championing safety, quality, innovation, and risk management processes.The role will be hybrid, but primarily work will be from any Stantec office in Ontario. Travel, on occasion, will be required to other Stantec office locations, the field and/or meetings with clients.ResponsibilitiesMaintain client outreach (internally & externally) specific to the mining marketConduct mining market researchLead the Ontario Geotechnical team in mining pursuitsLead and coordinate proposal development, proposal debriefs, backlog tracking, and client surveysLead client events (i.e., training seminars) and attend mining industry events, such as conferences and/or tradeshowsDevelop business plans and work with the leadership team to achieve key performance indicatorsContribute to the development and execution of the national business strategy for Geotechnical Services, with accountability for Ontario region-specific strategies and priorities with respect to the mining sectorLead growth in revenue generation and monitor progress using Stantec’s business tools to monitor KPIsEngage in technical project work, including preparing, reviewing, and supervising technical documents such as reports, drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, cost estimates, and construction documentationParticipate in dam safety reviews, dam inspections, and other projects related to tailings risks and managementManage and collaborate with multidisciplinary experts across civil, geotechnical, hydrotechnical, environmental, hydrogeology, and geochemistry disciplinesHiring and mentoring new team membersAssist leadership with the training and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff to respond to proposal requests, liaising with clients, project scoping, and other business development initiativesCapabilities and CredentialsProfound knowledge of Ontario’s mining sectorExperience in engineering design studies from conceptual to detailed levels for tailings, waste rock, and water management systems, including dams, dikes, and earthworksExcellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to clearly convey and distill complex technical information to a variety of audiencesPEO memberAbility to balance project execution and business developmentEntrepreneurial minded with a core understanding of business and the challenges of an engineering and geotechnical consulting services providerTeam player with experience in sourcing clients, building, leading, and managing a teamAwareness of professional standards of practice (Professional Engineers, Professional Geologists, PMP), ethics, and their applicability to Stantec’s business, risk management, and quality frameworksEducation and ExperienceBachelor\'s degree in a related field (master’s degree is an asset)Minimum of 15 years of geotechnical services work in the mining sector, leadership, technical, financial management, business development and consulting experienceTypical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
