Manufacturing Engineer – Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Manufacturing Engineer to optimize manufacturing processes, drive continuous improvement, and maintain high standards of quality in a high-mix, low-volume production environment. This role will focus on resolving production issues, enhancing manufacturing methods, and supporting the introduction of new products while collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Production Issue Resolution & Quality Support
- Lead root cause analyses and corrective actions for production issues using problem-solving methods that drive systemic change, such as 8D.
- Collaborate with the Quality Manager and Manufacturing Managers to manage non-conformance reports, ensuring timely resolutions with minimal impact on production.
- Conduct product testing and inspections to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Value Stream Mapping principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
- Drive takt time improvements and optimize production workflows across CNC machining, honing, grinding, and specialized processes like induction spray welding and chroming.
- Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of new products and support the design of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Execute engineering change requests (ECRs) and orders (ECOs) to enhance existing processes and facilitate smooth product launches.
Capacity Planning & Maintenance Support
- Work with the Director of Manufacturing to analyze production capacities and implement resource optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop preventative maintenance programs and troubleshoot equipment issues to ensure reliable production uptime.
Training & Documentation
- Develop and maintain detailed work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process documentation in collaboration with the Quality department.
- Train production personnel on new processes, equipment, and safety protocols to promote operational consistency and safety.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in high-mix, low-volume production.
- Hands-on experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and advanced problem-solving methodologies like 8D.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and ERP/MES systems.
- Strong analytical and project management skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Knowledge of quality standards (ISO 9001, API Q1) and manufacturing technologies.
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is a strong asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialized processes like induction spray welding, chroming, or other advanced manufacturing methods.
- Familiarity with automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Demonstrated success in driving takt time improvements and optimizing workflows in diverse production settings.
