In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Working as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team, the Surgical Care Nurse functions as an experienced self-directed surgical care nurse by assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for assigned patients.QualificationsRegistration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant; andPost-basic education in surgical/ambulatory care nursing on a unit specific basis; orAn equivalent combination of education and training.Up to two (2) years recent, related experience on a unit specific basis.Basic Life Support, Level CSkills And AbilitiesApply nursing process as required and described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards of Nursing PracticeDemonstrate sound organizational, problem solving, and teaching skillsDemonstrate sound judgement, observation and patient assessment skillsDemonstrate tact and empathyPrioritize and organize patient demands made and care needsOperate related equipmentRemain calm and respond appropriately in stressful and emergency situationsWork as part of a multidisciplinary health care teamFoster good public relationsCommunicate effectively, both verbally and in writingPhysically able to perform the duties of the positionWork independently, with limited supervision #J-18808-Ljbffr
