This role supports Stantec's Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering group and engages in multimodal planning across Canada and beyond.ResponsibilitiesAct as a Senior Urban Planner on complex and challenging transportation planning assignments.Use knowledge of provincial and local planning policy in the preparation of planning policy studies for public sector clients.Contribute to transportation planning and engineering projects including feasibility studies, transportation environmental assessments, functional plans, and preliminary designs for active transportation facilities and other facilities as assigned.Assist with facilitation of public workshop events.Use knowledge of planning, land use, infrastructure economics, and transportation equity to analyze and address socioeconomic impacts of transportation projects.Leverage experience with Ontario municipal capital infrastructure delivery processes to inform strategic planning initiatives.Serve as GIS lead on projects and coordinate multiple GIS resources within project scope, schedule, and budget.Work with project teams to determine the optimal use of geospatial technologies to meet client needs and ensure completion of implementation.Engage with GIS teams and stay aware of current state of practice and opportunities for growth.Support multi-disciplinary teams of planners, architects, urban designers, landscape architects, and engineers.Analyze data, including equity data, census, crash records, and performance monitoring resources.Demonstrate additional technical background in urban design, land economics, transportation planning, and/or public engagement as assets; familiarity with AutoCAD or Synchro is favorable.Uphold high ethical standards and integrity; contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive team environment.Deliver high-quality work on schedule, working both independently and in a collaborative team setting.Your Capabilities and CredentialsComprehensive understanding of planning and urban design principles related to urban, regional, and rural planning, placemaking, climate resilience, emerging innovations, and development economics.Experience in transportation planning policy development, including master plans, land use plans, and zoning by-laws.Experience in transportation engineering and planning including functional planning and preliminary design for active transportation facilities in Ontario municipalities.Knowledge of planning, programming, and prioritization of Ontario municipal transportation infrastructure projects, considering socioeconomic impacts and transportation equity.Proficiency in transportation data management/analyses using GIS/databases and solid GIS fundamentals.Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS Pro; experience with ArcGIS Online/Enterprise, dashboards, and related applications.Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including stakeholder presentations; proficiency in English; strong MS Office skills.Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.Self-motivated with continuous learning mindset; prior consulting experience is valued.Collaborative orientation across disciplines (Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Engineering, Architecture); strong research, data analysis, and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated experience supporting an equitable, diverse, and inclusive team environment.High integrity and the ability to produce high-quality work on schedule.Education and ExperienceUniversity degree in engineering, urban planning, economics, geography, or a related field; a relevant Urban Planning degree (Master’s level an asset) and Full Membership in OPPI (or eligibility) with at least 10 years of planning experience, including work for Ontario municipalities.About StantecStantec is a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting.
