About the Team:
At Scotiabank, research is a key driver of our Global Equity platform. We specialize in the Canadian market, supplying targeted international research covering the United States and Latin America.

Position Highlights:
Equity Research Associates enjoy a stimulating and demanding work environment, working closely with seasoned Research Analysts to develop financial forecasts and publish research publications.

What You'll Do:

  1. Perform comprehensive financial statement analysis and create and maintain financial models.
  2. Conduct in-depth industry analysis and research using industry and financial sources.
  3. Collect, consolidate, and interpret company and industry data.
  4. Assist in writing research publications, including morning commentary, company and industry reports, and theme-based research reports.
  5. Follow overall market news and evaluate market data to assess short and long-term trends.
  6. Prepare PowerPoint presentations for meetings with internal and external clients.
  7. Communicate and handle inquiries from institutional investors.
  8. Develop and maintain connections with investor relations and management of companies under coverage group.
  9. Liaise with sales, trading, and other areas of the firm within regulatory guidelines.

What You'll Bring:

  1. A university degree in business with a specialization in accounting or finance.
  2. A CPA designation, MBA, Master of Finance degree, or enrollment in/completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program is preferred.
  3. Work experience in a financial, analytical, corporate development, or M&A capacity would be an asset.
  4. Work experience in or knowledge of the forestry, agriculture, fertilizers, chemicals, or lithium sector would be an asset.
  5. Strong accounting, financial modeling, graphing, and analytical skills.
  6. Experience in analyzing financial statements and valuing companies.
  7. Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel & PowerPoint.
  8. Familiarity with VBA, Python, or other programming languages would be an asset.
  9. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  10. Good business judgment and decision-making skills.
  11. Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  12. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work.
  13. A high level of energy and a keen desire to learn.

Work Arrangement:
This position is currently an on-site role, with the expectation that you will work at least 4 days a week in the office. This is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
