Title: Specialist, Intervenor for the Deafblind Community
Position Overview:
CNIB Deafblind Community Services (DBCS) enables individuals who are Deafblind to maximize their independence and engagement with the world around them.
We're seeking passionate individuals to develop our team and make a difference in the lives of others.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide one on one support to individuals who are Deafblind, facilitating interaction between the individual and their environment.
- Facilitate access to information, enabling individuals to gather knowledge, learn concepts, and make informed decisions.
- Offer sighted guide and environmental information to empower individuals to actively participate in their community.
- Determine the level of support required by each individual and work collaboratively to achieve their goals.
- Knowledgeable about intervention theories and principles.
- Familiar with Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and associated health-related concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and flexible, able to multi-task and work independently.
- Diploma or degree in a human services field or related experience.
- Experience working with individuals who are Deafblind or willingness to learn.
- Proficiency in alternate formats of communication, such as Two-Hand Manual or American Sign Language.
- Experience working with diverse populations and ability to build rapport with key stakeholders.
- Assistive or accessible technology skills considered an asset.
