Platform Engineer, Developer Experience Float is on a mission to simplify finance for Canadian businesses, empowering them to eliminate complexity and unlock new opportunities. Through our innovative platform, Float enables businesses to streamline financial operations and optimize cash flow, so they can focus on what matters most: growth. As one of Canada’s fastest growing companies and top-rated startups in 2024 and 2023, Float is customer-obsessed, passionate and entrepreneurial, with a team that includes leaders from Uber, Shopify, Top Hat, TouchBistro, and Ada. At Float, everyone is an owner, bringing their unique perspective to our team and product. We openly share our thoughts and differing opinions so we can continue to improve. We do our best to keep decision‑making decentralized so that all team members feel ownership in our success. About Float Float is Canada’s complete business finance platform, combining modern financial services and software to help businesses spend, save, and grow. Trusted by 5,000+ Canadian companies, Float provides high‑limit corporate cards, automated expense management, next‑day bill payments, high‑yield accounts and fast, friendly support—all built in Canada, for Canada. Float is backed by world‑class venture and fintech investors, including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives and OMERS Ventures. About the Platform Engineer, Developer Experience Role We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Developer Experience Engineer to build simple, elegant, and highly intuitive internal tools that empower our engineering team. In this role, you’ll focus on developer experience, developer tooling, and AI adoption—creating solutions that make our developers happier and more productive every day. What You’ll Be Responsible For Building and evolving a world‑class internal developer platform: Design and implement tools, frameworks, and automation that streamline our development process. You’ll create intuitive systems that make it easy for developers to build, test, and deploy code (our stack includes Python, Django, Postgres, AWS, but language‑agnostic skills are valued). Improving developer workflows and tooling: Solve problems for your fellow engineers by understanding their needs and crafting both quick tactical fixes and strategic long‑term solutions. This could include developing self‑service pipelines, one‑click dev environments, CI/CD improvements, or internal dashboards to monitor build health and performance. Championing AI‑powered development: Help developers adopt and use AI tools effectively. Evaluate and integrate AI/ML solutions (code assistants, automated code review bots, AI‑driven documentation search) into our engineering workflow to boost productivity and code quality, and provide guidance and training. Collecting feedback and fostering consensus: Host developer roundtables, send out surveys, or have one‑on‑one chats to learn where our tooling can improve, ensuring we build solutions that truly address developers’ pain points. Defining and tracking success metrics: Use data to drive decision‑making and measure impact. Define key developer experience metrics (deployment frequency, build success rates, onboarding time, Developer NPS) and track improvements over time. Rapidly shipping improvements: Own the internal developer experience with extreme ownership, experiment, iterate, and ship high‑quality tooling updates and features quickly. About You Put customers first, always. You care deeply about delivering meaningful value to developers and users. Act like an owner. Take responsibility for outcomes and seek proactive solutions. Think big and move fast. Energized by building from 0 to 1, you’re not afraid to challenge the status quo. Learn and grow constantly. You’re hungry to improve your craft and open to feedback. Raise the bar. Balance speed with rigor and continuously improve processes. Win as a team. You’re a generous collaborator who values communication and shared wins. In Addition to Living Our Values, You Also Have Deep developer empathy and understanding of pain points. Strong consensus‑building and communication skills. A metrics‑driven mindset focused on data and outcomes. Passion for tooling and developer experience. Senior‑level experience: 5+ years of software development, with a track record of building internal tools or platforms. Technical breadth and agility across Python/Django, TypeScript/React, PostgreSQL, AWS, and other stacks. Mission‑driven and self‑motivated, excited by Float’s vision. Leadership mindset, able to lead initiatives and influence without people management. Customer (developer) advocacy to champion engineering needs. This May Not Be the Role for You If… You don’t like change or adapting to new ways of doing things. You want a very organized and predictable day‑to‑day schedule. You’re uncomfortable with ambiguity and lack of clear solutions. You prefer highly detailed to‑do lists for every task and need granular direction. Why You Should Join Work at one of Canada’s fastest‑growing fintech companies. Make a real impact in a high‑autonomy, high‑growth role. Collaborate with an ambitious and supportive team. Competitive compensation, equity options, and benefits. Hybrid work model – based in Toronto with in‑office days for connection. Enjoy catered team lunches every Tuesday and Wednesday. Bring your pup to our dog‑friendly office. Thrive in a high‑trust, high‑performance culture where your work truly matters. In Short At Float, you’ll thrive if you’re bold, curious, and eager to make a real impact. We’re building something special—and having a lot of fun along the way. If you’re excited to build, grow, and win together, we’d love to meet you. We’re committed to building a workplace that’s welcoming and accessible for everyone.
