Operations Optimization Analyst 1

This position works in the Engineering – Administration organizational unit. This is analytical work at the entry level that supports improvements to business processes, procedures, and systems to increase departmental efficiencies. The Operations Optimization Analyst 1 assists in identifying business challenges and opportunities for improvement by gathering information such as objectives, practices, and processes from stakeholders; analyzing and mapping workflows to identify inefficiencies; and recommending small-scale process improvements. The role includes compiling and analyzing data, identifying trends, and drafting summary visuals and reports to support decision‑making, as well as developing and tracking basic key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of process improvements. The incumbent supports the coordination and implementation of small projects, participates in documenting business and project requirements, updates standard operating procedures, and maintains system forms and data while performing quality audits. The position also supports with stakeholder engagement and change management activities by preparing communications, reviewing the impacts of changes with user groups, and providing basic training and coaching to staff on revised processes and tools. Performs related work as required. Qualifications include completion of a bachelor’s degree or diploma in business administration, engineering, data science or other relevant field, plus sound work experience in workflow analysis and process improvement in an environment similar to that of the department served; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The position requires sound knowledge of business analysis, process planning, and continuous improvement principles, along with methods and tools for data collection, workflow analysis, and performance measurement. The incumbent must have working knowledge of automation, integration, and information technology components relevant to process improvement, as well as proficiency in business and technical tools, including the MS Office Suite and data platforms such as Power BI, Power Query, and Power Automate. The ability in analyzing, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced operational environment. The role requires the ability to communicate effectively orally and in written communication to convey process changes to both technical specialists and end users, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments and participate in the work of a project team.
