Role Overview We’re seeking an experienced professional to lead Carlsberg Canada’s Legal and Government Affairs function. This role is responsible for driving strategic direction, managing risks, and ensuring the function delivers value and supports our business goals. You’ll work closely across teams as a proactive business partner, reporting to the Head of Legal for CEEI with a dotted line to the Managing Director, and serve as a key member of the Carlsberg Canada Management Team. What you’ll be doing Providing clear and focused advice on all legal, government affairs and regulatory matters Negotiating, reviewing and drafting legal opinions and contracts related to commercial and co‑manufacturing agreements and other business‑related matters Ensuring solid contract management – tracking contracts, content and deadlines Working with external lawyers on specialized legal issues (e.g., competition, taxes, employment) Acting as the lead contact for all intellectual property, trademark and brand protection matters and routine management of trademark‑related requests Leading governmental affairs matters related to the beverage industry, including impacting and reviewing federal and/or provincial framework agreements, specific rules and regulations, environmental requirements and other relevant impacts to the business Developing, structuring and prioritising governmental affairs focus areas in close alignment with relevant internal stakeholders; pursuing implementation and providing clear feedback, guidance and business recommendations Playing a supportive and active member of the Beer Canada Management Committee Acting as the Local Compliance Officer, driving and leading the local compliance committee, supporting and ensuring implementation of compliance policies, training and activities. Leading the effort to embed a strong compliance culture throughout the company What we’re looking for Law degree from a recognised institution and active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario 8+ years of progressive experience in legal (and ideally compliance) roles, gained through both private practice and in‑house positions Proven ability to effectively lead and manage a Legal and Government Affairs function High level of integrity and strong business acumen, with a solid understanding of strategy across multiple business areas Demonstrated leadership, curiosity and initiative to positively influence business outcomes Exceptional analytical and negotiation skills, with the ability to provide sound, practical advice Recognised as a role model for cross‑functional collaboration and indirect leadership Advanced expertise within the Fast‑Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or similar industry Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French proficiency is an asset Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint We’re looking for individuals who bring not only technical expertise, but also a mindset aligned with our Growth Culture principles.
