About the Job
The Health Care Assistant (Patient Care Aide): • Assists patients with personal care and activities of daily living • Assists with patient mobility, transfers and related equipment • Performs nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration • Performs housekeeping activities relating to maintaining a safe and healthy environment • Observes and report changes in patient progress, symptoms and condition • Performs clerical duties and other related duties
As the Health Care Assistant (Patient Care Aide), you will work as a key team member of an interdisciplinary team that provides patient care within the hospital. Working under the direction of RN’s and LPN’s, Patient Care Aides follow established care plans and routines to deliver the best patient care possible.
This is a Casual Opportunity. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. Casual employees are eligible to apply for internal postings including permanent and temporary positions. There are many opportunities with Interior Health that begin with casual employment and lead to regular employment.
Shifts of work will be scheduled days and evenings; rotating from 07:30 to 15:30, 15:30 to 23:30 hours.

The hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including emergency care, surgical procedures, specialized treatments, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging, and ongoing public health support. As a smaller facility, CMH offers health-care professionals the opportunity to practice with a degree of autonomy rarely found in larger centers. Covering a vast catchment area extending from Bella Coola on the coast to the Cariboo mountains in the east, and serving a significant Indigenous population, the hospital presents a chance to truly make a difference in the lives of a diverse range of individuals.
Currently, the emergency department features one trauma room, a minor surgery room, monitoring bays, a gynecology room that also serves as a negative pressure room, a designated observation area, and a two-bay cast room. Staffing comprises a mix of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and emergency department physicians providing round-the-clock coverage, catering to approximately 21,000 patient visits annually. Our Hospital Acute Unit (HAU) offers three high-acuity beds. On-site facilities include laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, as well as outpatient hemodialysis units. Additionally, residential beds are seamlessly integrated within the medical-surgical unit for comprehensive patient care.
