Chief Engineer

You as the Chief Engineer at our Penticton Regional Hospital will:
- Be responsible for fulfilling the technical aspects of the maintenance delivery as it relates to plant maintenance and equipment, ensuring that facilities are well maintained and operable, and managing the maintenance staff under your supervision.
- Act as the technical spokesperson for the facility and serve the role of lead technician.
- Work with the Maintenance Planner to assign and schedule work, troubleshoot technical issues, answer questions, and serve as primary quality control inspector. In this role, you will interface with both in-house personnel and subcontractors on all requisitioned work assignments to achieve full regulatory compliance.
- Be responsible for implementing plans and policies to achieve overall objectives to ensure maximum operating results while performing all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the company’s values and beliefs.
- Utilize creative and strategic thinking to develop solutions to complex technical issues to minimize downtime and ensure service delivery.
- Ensure stakeholders are informed of the progress and status of open work orders, projects, and other activities to help ensure adequate use of resources and timely completion of work orders in a cost-effective manner.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.
- Support and perform specific analysis related to the Services Project Agreement.
- Review new and pending laws and regulations which affect business practices. Develop/revise appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance and ensure proper implementation.
- Perform routine facility inspections for conformance with operational and safety requirements and standards.
- Ensure senior management is proactively kept abreast of potential problems, work interference, schedule difficulties, employee issues, and/or client issues.
- Lead and mentor a team of Power Engineers and Assistant Chief Engineer.
Is this the right role for you?
- You have 5-7 years of relevant experience; healthcare experience is an asset.
- 3rd Class Engineering Certificate.
- Excellent knowledge of HVAC, medical gas, BAS, and plumbing systems.
- Must be able to assess and solve problems, and know when to request assistance to solve an issue before it escalates.
- Desire to learn and upgrade technical skills.
- Comfortable using computer technology.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, codes, and specifications.
