Software Engineering Expert, Crypto and Alternative Trading Products

OverviewSenior Principal Full Stack Engineer, Crypto and Alternative Trading Products role at Questrade Financial Group (QFG). This position focuses on building and expanding digital asset and alternative trading capabilities across Questrade products, including retail crypto platforms and internal tools, with an emphasis on scalable, secure, and high-availability systems.ResponsibilitiesPlatform Development: Architect, design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure full-stack applications for Questrade\'s retail crypto and alternatives trading platforms, leveraging modern architectural patterns, microfrontend approaches, and best-in-class technologies.Infrastructure Expansion: Drive the expansion of crypto infrastructure across various Questrade products, ensuring seamless integration, high performance, and future scalability.New Product Launches: Lead the development and launch of new crypto capabilities for clients and internal teams, from ideation to deployment, with an emphasis on speed-to-market and quality.Growth Portfolio Innovation: Contribute to the architecture, build, and delivery of other new alternative trading products within the Growth Portfolio entity, actively identifying and adopting emerging technologies.API Design & Integration: Create, document, and integrate with clear, efficient, and secure APIs (RESTful and WebSocket) to facilitate crypto and alternatives transactions, setting standards for integration and developer experience.Team Leadership & Mentorship: Coach and mentor junior and intermediate team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.Operational Support: Provide expert support for crypto trading and transfer solutions, ensuring system stability and reliability through proactive monitoring and incident resolution.Efficiency & Automation: Identify opportunities to automate workflows, optimize system performance, and enhance development pipelines to boost team efficiency and accelerate delivery cycles.Problem Solving: Diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues, ensuring high availability and optimal performance of crypto and trading systems.Collaboration: Work closely with product owners, developers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.Research & Innovation: Stay abreast of blockchain and cryptocurrency trends, bringing innovative solutions and new tools to maintain competitive edge.Experience in the financial services or FinTech industry; experience launching new products from 0 to 1.Familiarity with security best practices in blockchain and financial applications; familiarity with crypto platform vendors is a plus.QualificationsBachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.5+ years of software development experience with a focus on scalable, resilient systems and strong UI development.Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Vue, React Native).Proficiency in one or more modern backend languages (e.g., C#, Java, Go, Python, Node.js); preference for Java and Spring Boot.Experience designing interactive web and mobile applications and RESTful/WebSocket APIs.Solid understanding of OOP and SOLID principles.Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and optimizing for large datasets.Experience with event-driven architectures and message queues (e.g., Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ).Experience with state management libraries/patterns and testing (e.g., Jest, Cypress).Experience with micro-frontend architectures; cloud platforms (GCP, Azure, AWS) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes) are a plus.Strong system design, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.Benefits & How We WorkHealth & wellbeing resources and programsPaid vacation, personal, and sick daysCompetitive compensation and benefits packagesHybrid work environment with at least 3 days in officeCareer growth and development opportunitiesOpportunities to contribute to community causesInclusive and collaborative team cultureNotesQuestrade Financial Group uses AI in its applicant screening.
