Lead Substation Physical Designer – GE Vernova We are looking for an experienced Substation Physical Designer to support Electrical Substation Project Engineers and produce accurate drawing packages for complex power delivery projects and proposals. Your work will cover general arrangements of AIS/GIS HV substations with control buildings, plan views, elevations, equipment erection details, structural and electrical details, lightning protection, ground grid, foundation drawings, tray/conduit/trough drawings, duct bank drawings, and detailed bills of materials. As a leading 3‑D Substation Physical Designer you will develop 3‑D models using Revit or AutoCAD 3D for HV substations and generate electrical physical 2‑D drawings. Strong knowledge of Revit is required to implement GE BIM strategy and processes in line with ISO‑19650 and customer BIM requirements. Responsibilities Develop HV physical designs from tender stages until project hand‑over. Create substation drawings adhering to NEC, NESC, and customer specifications. Derive detailed substation layouts and elevations from single‑line diagrams and basic sketches. Prepare detailed bills of material for substation equipment, HV connectors, conduit, troughs, and cable trays. Coordinate with plant & communication, civil, and structure disciplines. Complete complex drawing packages with minimal supervision. Follow quality procedures and standard design processes. Perform thorough review checks of own work and that of others. Update engineers and PMs with job completion estimates and status. Implement BIM Execution Plans, including model collaboration, clash detection, virtual construction, and ADC reviews. Manage BIM information data, ensuring accuracy and completeness throughout the project lifecycle. Coordinate development and evolution of regional BIM models and processes. Drive standardization of tools and design practices. Qualifications Associate degree in drafting or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology. Minimum 7 years of HV substation physical design experience. Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards. Experience with US utility substation design standards and knowledge of LV/MV/HV equipment. Capability to produce HV substation general arrangements and installation details independently. Extensive experience with the latest versions of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD 3D, SDS Navisworks, and interoperability with other software. Good knowledge of ISO 19650 and other BIM standards. Experience in Autodesk Construction Cloud (Docs, Design Collaboration, Model Coordination, Insight & Build). Demonstrated MCAD skills and familiarity with 3‑D engineering design tools (Creo, E3D, SolidWorks, Inventor) and IFC exchange. General IT/IS background, PLM knowledge (Windchill/Imagine). Prior field installation and construction experience. Highly organized, self‑motivated, excellent communication skills. Ability to produce clear documentation. Experience with quality assurance processes in schedule‑driven projects. Customer‑focused with adaptability to various customer standards.
