JOB PROFILE

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Finance, the Accountant Technician is responsible for performing a variety of advanced duties and responsibilities in the processing and maintenance of financial records. ensuring controls are maintained and implemented to safeguard the Service’s resources.

As an Accountant Technician you will:

  • Be financially accountable for any arrangements that generate revenue for the Service, including the implementation and maintenance of processes to ensure accurate recoveries
  • Manage and lead staff to ensure financial information is provided in a timely fashion and recorded in an accurate and efficient manner
  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare reports and recommendations in the areas of revenue and expense projections, revenue budgets, and others as required to support these functions
  • Manage internal finance processes to ensure compliance with policy and procedures
  • Ensure financial practices, activities and transactions are accurate and that accounting practices and principles are adhered to, tracking discrepancies and prepare corrections as required
  • Other duties as required

Your education and qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Commerce Degree majoring in Accounting or equivalent including enrollment in CPA PEP program or similar standing in CPA programming based on education obtained in pursuance of CGA, CMA or CA designation
  • Minimum of three years of experience in an intermediate accounting role in a computerized environment including accounting procedures and practices, preparing varied financial reports and statements, balancing and reconciling various accounting records and summaries
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processes, experience considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of budgetary process and procedures for the City of Winnipeg an asset.
  • Ability to lead, provides guidance, training, and effectively manages staff in a dynamic team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationship.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a positive, respectful, safe and healthy work environment that supports the physical, psychological and social working relationships with members at all levels in a team environment.

    • Minimum 18 years of age
    • No involvement in any criminal activity within the last two years (including illegal drugs)
    • No criminal record for which a Pardon has not been granted

    Conditions of employment:

    • Ability to pass a level 3 Winnipeg Police Service security check and maintain clearance
    • Ability to successfully complete additional training as defined by the Service
