TERMS: Full-Time, Permanent REFERENCE #: 2025-124 (REPOST) REVENUE FOR POSITION: OSR Purpose of Position Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Water Meter Technician & Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist to join the Utilities Division. This role is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of water meters, as well as the implementation and management of the Cross-Connection Control (CCC) Program, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and protecting public water safety. Duties and Responsibilities Install, inspect, calibrate, repair, and replace water meters of various types and sizes. Conduct routine maintenance and accuracy testing of residential, commercial, and industrial water meters. Investigate and resolve meter reading discrepancies and customer inquiries. Maintain precise data records and generate reports on meter performance and water usage. Support maintenance and upgrades to automated meter reading systems (AMR/AMI). Cross-Connection Control Program Duties Implement, monitor, and enforce the Cross-Connection Control Program in accordance with TteS Bylaws and provincial standards. Conduct inspections and risk assessments to identify cross-connection hazards. Test and maintain backflow prevention devices and ensure devices are functioning properly. Maintain accurate logs, inspection reports, test results, and compliance schedules. Engage with homeowners, contractors, and business owners to address non-compliance and promote best practices. Deliver community education and awareness campaigns on cross-connection and backflow prevention. Professional Certification, Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Minimum 2 years of experience in water meter installation, maintenance, or a related utility field. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (BC) with a clean driving record. Certified Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (or ability to obtain within 6 months). EOCP Certification in Water Distribution (or ability to obtain within 12 months). Familiarity with provincial drinking water regulations and CCC program requirements. Experience with AMR/AMI systems and utility mapping software. Ensures accurate tracking and reporting of metering data that may influence utility billing. Recommends cost-effective repairs, upgrades, and replacement of equipment and meters. Assists in budgeting for meter maintenance, AMR/AMI upgrades, and CCC program equipment. Supervision or Training Duties May provide guidance or informal mentorship to seasonal or junior Public Works/Utilities staff. May assist in cross-training staff in metering systems or CCC program operations. Skills and Abilities Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, water distribution, and backflow prevention. Proficiency in reading maps, blueprints, and technical manuals. Basic computer literacy and the ability to use utility management software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for public engagement. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain accurate records. Knowledge of Neptune 360 system is considered a strong asset. Special Requirements Must maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Criminal Record Check may be required. Ability to work outdoors and sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs, perform manual labor, and use hand/power tools. Extended health, dental, and vision. 7.6% Registered Pension Plan (RPP) matching and Life insurance. HOURS OF WORK: Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required. PAY GRADE: Starting at $25.98 - $38.21 per hour, depending on education and experience.
