Description Guelph, Ontario (preferred) or remote within Canada ClimateFirst (climatefirst.net) is a fast-growing climate tech startup on a mission to solve climate resiliency for the built environment. Our B2B SaaS platform helps commercial real estate owners and operators quantify climate risk in dollars, prioritize actions, and future‑proof their assets. We’ve achieved early market traction with a growing roster of top‑tier clients and are now looking for a Software Team Lead to accelerate our growth globally and lead ClimateFirst’s development team. This team works primarily in the North American Eastern time zone out of our HQ in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, but remote applicants are welcome. ClimateFirst is a venture spin‑out of RWDI, a global climate and performance engineering consulting firm. While our team is a separate company, we work closely with RWDI and enjoy the benefits of being attached to an established business. Who are we looking for We are looking for an experienced, team‑oriented leader. You have managed people, and you know what it takes to lead a team and mentor people along the way. You are a great communicator and care about creating a team‑oriented environment where people can collaborate to do their best work. With 5 – 7 years of professional software development experience under your belt, you are comfortable building software as part of a fast‑moving team. You have production experience with technologies like Python, JavaScript, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, Docker, and Azure. You have worked in a small, dynamic team or at an early‑stage startup. You’re comfortable with rapid change and have developed skills for embracing it. Rapid prototyping, learning, iterating, and even throwing code away excites you. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Your Role You will be responsible for driving critical product features for our ClimateFirst product as we scale our customer base. You will coordinate with team members to prioritize builds, address customer product needs and ensure the management team of Climate First is communicating efficiently and transparently with the development team. More about you… You have strong software development skills, but your science and engineering background are important too. Our development team works closely with domain experts in RWDI and ClimateFirst and having an ability to understand the basic science underpinning our product is helpful. Customer success and happiness are in your blood, and you are keen to get your hands dirty to help them get most of the product, and to learn how they tick. You’re passionate about creating products and companies that make the world safer, more resilient, and more efficient. You have an entrepreneurial mindset. You are curious about our mission to make the built environment more resilient using advanced building science and climate risk analysis. You’re comfortable knowing when post‑early product development it’s time to harden platforms and optimize code. You believe in automated testing, continuous delivery, and modern best practices, but you also understand that learning is the most important thing in early‑stage product development.
