Job Summary:

Our Projects & Power Distribution team is looking for a Project Engineer (6+ years of relevant experience) who understands project management, is energized through solving challenging problems, values strong and lasting relationships with clients and co-workers, and wants to foster their career in a dynamic and growing industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design of power distribution equipment (MV/LV), including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, equipment layouts, and communication systems
  • Design protection & control systems for power distribution equipment and control panels
  • Prepare and submit project documentation including drawing packages, cable schedule, panel schedules, operation and maintenance manuals, testing and commissioning reports, change order requests, and other related equipment and project documentation
  • Organize and participate in design review and project meetings with both internal and external clients
  • Specify and select electrical equipment and services, prepare data sheets, prepare RFQs, review quotations, select and interface with vendors, prepare purchase orders
  • Understand and coordinate the completion of power system studies including Load flow, Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash, Ground Grid Analysis
  • Manage and interface with internal Prime departments including Mechanical Design, Power System Studies, Assembly & Fabrication, Field Service, and Controls Engineering
  • Manage and schedule projects in conjunction with colleagues' and clients' needs and demands
  • Occasional technical report writing
  • Create electrical protection relay settings, occasionally required to perform testing
  • Occasionally required to perform on-site commissioning and testing of electrical installations
  • Troubleshoot protection and control systems both in office and occasionally on-site
  • Aid Controls designers/engineers regarding electrical and protection equipment and other project-related interfaces
  • Occasionally may be required to carry out inspections, field reviews, and witness testing of electrical equipment as required
  • Take P.Eng. professional responsibility of regulated practice for both personal work and that of EITs
  • This position has no direct reports

Must Haves:

  • Registered with EGBC as a P.Eng. or immediately able to register with active P.Eng. registration from another Canadian province
  • 6+ years of relevant experience directly related to electrical engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant experience directly related to commercial and industrial medium voltage distribution equipment and systems
  • 2+ years of previous experience reviewing and taking professional responsibility of regulated practice for personal work
  • 1+ years of previous experience reviewing and taking professional responsibility of regulated practice for work prepared by EITs

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including strong written and verbal communication
  • Detail and quality oriented
  • Strong work ethic, leadership, willingness to learn, and open to instruction
  • Experience with an ERP system (e.g., NetSuite) an asset
  • Previous experience with industrial equipment manufacturing an asset
  • Hands-on field experience with electrical power equipment an asset
  • Employee management experience an asset
  • Knowledge of power distribution, switchgear, generation, and substations is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of CEC and IEEE standards is considered an asset

Qualification:

  • Electrical engineering degree, diploma, or other applicable certification
  • Excellent MS Office skills
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License & clean driver’s abstract
  • Must be legally entitled to work within Canada
