Position Title: Director of Research for Indigenous Governance & Social Justice Department: Deveau Institute of Indigenous Governance and Social Justice Position Type: Full Time (3 year renewable term) Classification: MPE Band G (provisional rating) Posting Date: October 28 2025 Closing Date: November 12 2025 Salary Range: $96,917 – $118,399 Overview The Deveau Institute for Indigenous Governance and Social Justice at StFX University aims to support community‑responsive research advancing Indigenous rights and revitalising Mikmaw justice practices. Guided by the teachings of etuaptmumk, netukulimk, msit nokmaq, and the Peace and Friendship treaties, the Institute serves as a think‑tank and nexus for critical assessment of policies to combat systemic discrimination, support treaty mobilisation, and foster Indigenous self‑determination. Role Summary The Director of Research is an emerging or established leader, a culturally connected member of the Mikmaq Nation, and a research practitioner committed to rigorous, ethical work beneficial to Mikmaw communities. The Director will lead research initiatives, secure funding, and contribute to the Institute’s community‑engagement programmes. Responsibilities Conduct and oversee research in collaboration with local, regional, national, and international researchers and networks. Secure research support from external funding sources to advance the Institute’s research programme. Provide research leadership within the Deveau Institute of Indigenous Governance and Social Justice. Contribute to the Institute’s research‑related activities and community‑engagement programmes. Qualifications Applicants should have: Training in policy analysis and applied Indigenous research methodologies. Emerging or established research experience with potential for leadership in Indigenous governance, policy, and social justice. Experience or knowledge of Mikmaq tribal councils is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to secure and manage external research funding.
