About the Faculty

The Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Brock University is a leader in interdisciplinary research and home to five academic Departments: Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Nursing, Recreation and Leisure Studies, and Sport Management. The Faculty is a dynamic and vibrant academic environment with 90 faculty members, 24 staff, over 3500 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. The Faculty offers unique, inter-disciplinary graduate programs both at the masters and doctoral level including two MSc (Kinesiology; Health Sciences), five MA (Community Health; Leisure Studies; Nursing; Health and Physical Education; Sport Management) and three PhD fields (Health Biosciences; Behavioural and Population Health; Social and Cultural Health Studies).

The selected candidate will join the Department of Kinesiology. As a research-intensive department, Kinesiology provides an ideal environment for an expert in this field. The Department of Kinesiology offers bachelor's degrees in Kinesiology and physical education to 1100 students, a Master of Professional Kinesiology, and a new Master of Athletic Therapy (subject to Ministry approval). The Department has housed four Tier II CRCs and one Tier I CRC and several leading researchers. The new faculty focusing on athletic injury prevention and management will not only complement the current areas of research in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences but will also enjoy momentous support. Applicants are also encouraged to establish links between their research program and University research/academic centres within and beyond the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences.

About the position

The Department of Kinesiology is seeking a black scholar with expertise in Athletic Injury Prevention and Management for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate must have a completed doctorate, a strong record of scholarship and grant success, university-level teaching experience, and the ability to teach applied athletic therapy courses, and the potential to participate in and supervise graduate students. Applicants must also have CAT(C) certification or be eligible to sit for the exam (through International Arrangement) and a commitment to service including community engagement and knowledge translation.

Specifically, we are looking for a dynamic black scholar with expertise in athletic therapy with the ability to teach graduate courses in the newly proposed Master of Athletic Therapy (pending Ministry approval), as well as undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: 1) care and prevention of athletic injuries; 2) athletic injury epidemiology; 3) concussion management; and/or 4) musculoskeletal anatomy. The successful candidate should provide evidence of the ability to work in a transdisciplinary environment and to make contributions to a vibrant group of scholars housed within the Department, Faculty, and University that can extend to the greater Niagara Community.

Qualifications

  • The applicant must have a completed Ph.D. in Kinesiology, Athletic Therapy or related field.
  • The applicant must provide evidence of successful research, grant success, university-level teaching experience, and the ability to teach applied athletic therapy courses, and the potential to participate in and supervise graduate students.
  • 2 Years of related experience.
  • The applicant must have CAT(C) certification or be eligible to sit for the exam (through International Arrangement) and a commitment to service including community engagement and knowledge translation.
