Job Summary:

The position is responsible for directing and coordinating activities of the Product Engineering department including all areas of design, manufacturing, test components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through the team:

  1. Direct department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
  2. Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
  3. Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
  4. Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
  5. Forecast operating costs of the department and direct preparation of budget requests.
  6. Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
  7. Provide direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
  8. Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly.
  9. Be involved in new product gate reviews and review all new jobs for proper documentation and that the customer's needs are being addressed, as well as identifying ongoing needs for new as well as existing work.
  10. Maintain a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  11. Provide staff leadership, support, setting of goals and objectives, performance reviews, salary planning, career development, and training.
  12. Act as a coach, creating energized and motivated teams.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. 5+ years experience in product engineering working in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Excellent leadership skills including project planning and the ability to adopt new technologies.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, SAP.
  4. Proficiency in CAD & CAD/CAM software. Experience in specialized engineering software a plus.
