The CCA collaborates with members of the health care team and the caregiver/family in meeting the needs of individuals to attain an optimal level of independence and well-being.ResponsibilitiesProvide personal support activities with ADLs and/or iADLs to individuals with a broad range of non-complex care needs in their homes and other community locations.Assisting in administering medications to patients as directed by registered healthcare professionals.Assist with daily living activities, such as grooming, dressing, bathing, planning, and preparing meals.Checking and recording patients’ vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates.Help with patient mobility, prescribed exercises, and transfers.Collaborate with members of the health care team and the caregiver/family.Report any client safety concerns or evidence of client abuse or child abuse as required by law to a supervisor.Communicate effectively with the client, family and/or caregiver, and coordinators.Document client tasks/information.Communicate the needs, any changes and/or problems concerning clients, particularly any changes which may alter the plan of care to a supervisor.Maintain accurate and concise documentation in progress notes of clients and reporting any status changes.What You Will Need To Be SuccessfulMust have a CCA certificate from Seniors and Long-Term Care Nova Scotia or equivalency determined by the Health Association of Nova Scotia (HANS)Current Standard Level "C" CPR and First Aid CertificateClear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 12 monthsValid Canadian Driver's license (class 5 or 5N) and access to a reliable vehicle with insurance to travel within the community: Windsor, Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, Musquodoboit, DartmouthFood Handlers CertificateWHMIS CertificateRegistration with the Nova Scotia Continuing Care Assistant RegistryStrong verbal and written English communication skills; ability to communicate in French or other languages is an assetReliability and strong organization skillsAbility to safely lift up to 35 lbs.
