Job Description Senior Accountant - REPOST

The City of Port Moody has an excellent opportunity for a customer-oriented accounting professional to provide a wide range of accounting functions within a complex financial environment.

While providing customer service excellence, your responsibilities will include:

  • maintaining the General Ledger, preparing and reviewing a variety of financial reports and reconciliations, year-end working papers, financial statements, management reports, and external statutory or compliance reports
  • monitoring and reporting budgetary variances and performing complex accounting and financial analysis
  • assisting with the implementation of new public sector accounting standards and development of related policies and procedures
  • ongoing development and maintenance of the reporting of the City’s assets
  • recommending and assisting with implementation of process improvements to create efficiencies and strengthen internal controls
  • preparing and presenting financial recommendations to senior management and City Council
  • providing guidance and informal directions to accounting staff and acting for the Manager of Financial Reporting when absent.
    BasicQualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree and completion of aChartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation is required
    • Minimum 2 years of directly related experience in a complex accounting environment, local government experience is considered an asset.
    • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, policies and regulations of professional accounting practices, and preferably public sector accounting standards
    • Proficiency with financial software applications, reporting and presentation software, advanced Excel skills
    • Experience with capital budgets, and asset management sustainability practices
    • Ability to prepare, verify and analyze a variety of financial data
    • Effective time management, communication and organizational skills
