You will be responsible for the direct handling and monitoring of complex first-party and third-party claims with exposures in Canada and internationally. The types of losses may include Commercial Property, Energy, Equipment Breakdown, Environmental Liability, and additional Specialty Claims. The Claims Consultant performs the settlement of complex claims, civil liability or property damage, manages disputes or alternative dispute resolution processes, and undertakes analysis and evaluation of claims, liability, and provisions. You will contribute to unit priorities, provide expertise, mentor colleagues, and participate in the budget process.Workplace: NationalWhat you’ll do here:Manage, investigate, analyze, negotiate, and resolve large and complex commercial property claims generally with exposures over $1M or involving specialized losses within Canada and internationally;Engage and manage internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, and engineers to confirm coverage, determine liability, and assess damages;Mentor, guide, and provide technical advice to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims handling and support long-term succession planning;Train colleagues on complex claims handling;Work with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing feedback and lessons learned;Provide excellent customer service to Brokers, Customers, and Colleagues;Deliver and exceed key performance indicators related to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management;Leverage your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to support best practice operations;Negotiate claims effectively when appropriate;Attend settlement conferences and trials;Attend loss locations and other client and broker meetings, when appropriate.What you bring to the table:A critical thinker with intellectual curiosity when approaching complex problems in time-sensitive situations;A skilled communicator who can foster favorable business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients;A problem-solver capable of gathering information, evaluating situations, and negotiating solutions;Adaptability to changing needs, with flexibility and agility;Effective planning and organizational skills to establish strategies;A strong collaborator with a passion for mentoring and coaching others;10+ years of experience handling large and complex commercial property claims;Knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements;Undergraduate Degree or CIP designation (asset);Willingness to travel as needed.LI-LA1LI-HybridWhat we offerWorking here means you'll be empowered to do your best every day.
