As an Architectural Project Lead, you will assemble and complete construction documents for issuance to clients, consultants and municipal authorities for complex, high-end portfolios. These portfolios may include Mid to High-Rise, Mixed-use, Residential and Commercial buildings, Cultural and Institutional structures, Educational facilities, Custom Residential homes, Hospitality venues and Master Planning.

The position will report to the Architectural Project Manager, guide the Technologist/Senior Technologist, and collaborate with other Project Leads, Project Managers, and Designers. The goal is to compile plans, details, and schedules that comply with the best professional practices and applicable codes per the client's requirements, HPA's design perspective, time, and budget.

The person in this role will also be the primary point of contact for the project and will liaise with external project teams, clients, construction managers, consultants, and others.

As an Architectural Project Lead, you will:
  • Assist the Project Manager in coordinating and organizing project activities, including meetings, team assignments, and documentation management.
  • Ensure smooth project workflow and effective communication among team members.
  • Collaborate with the project team to define and assign tasks, track progress, and ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
  • Prepare Construction Documents, Drawings, Schedules, Specifications, Building Permit Applications, and Issuance of Construction and Tender Sets, Administering Contracts, Site Reviews, Shop Drawing Reviews, Reports and Change Orders.
  • Review project deliverables to ensure compliance with established standards and client requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining positive client relationships by effectively communicating project updates, addressing client inquiries, and providing necessary support. Collaborate with the Project Manager to manage client expectations and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Conscious of project budget and aligning it with drawing/document production and understanding the percentage of package completion against fixed fee.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining project documentation, including contract administrations, permits, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to conduct site visits and assist in resolving site issues with an understanding of construction materials and methods.
  • Contribute to developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions and ensure smooth project progression.
  • Mentor and coach Technologists and Senior Technologists by guiding technical skills, design principles, and professional development.
As an Architectural Project Lead, you will need to possess the following competencies:

To help you in achieving your objectives, you will have:
  • 8+ years of experience with a degree or diploma in Architectural Technology/Architecture/Design/relevant field.
  • Experience preparing Construction Documents, Building Permit Applications, Tender Sets, and Issuance of Construction.
  • The ability to understand building science and construction means & methods (this level and above).
  • High-rise, mixed-use, residential, and commercial development project experience.
  • Knowledge of the City of Toronto, submission documents and other city approval processes.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Escalating items relating to decisions/challenges from the Design and Contract Admin Team.
  • Ability to use Revit for Construction Documents, Building Permit Applications, Tender Sets, and Issuance of Construction.
  • Ability to use Revit, AutoCAD, and Sketch-Up.
