Job Description

AECOM Environment team in Edmonton is looking for an Environmental Technologist to assist in environmental investigation programs such as environmental drilling investigation, soil, groundwater, and soil vapour sampling. This position will be based in Edmonton, AB. The successful candidate will be working within a team of other technologists and junior engineers under the supervision of professional engineers and geologists. The role will involve assisting in all aspects of environmental projects with a focus on fieldwork and reporting.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs a variety of tasks in support of project staff.
  2. Gathers and maintains specified records of scientific data for supervisors, including environmental sampling, operations and maintenance, and inspections at client sites.
  3. Assists with calculations, sets up and operates equipment, inspects equipment and installations for compliance with specifications, and maintains proper project documentation.
  4. Collects and enters data, and applies technical principles and theories under supervision.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: Diploma in Environmental Technology, Geological, Geoscience Technology, or other related field.

Preferred Qualifications: At least 1 year of knowledge or experience in:

  1. Groundwater Monitoring – purging and sample collection from monitoring wells.
  2. Drilling – environmental drilling, ground disturbance procedures, soil/rock description, and monitoring well installation.
  3. Soil sampling – field screening, soil sample collection procedures.
  4. Field notes – taking organized and detailed field notes, recording observations.
  5. Reporting – creating tables, figure coordination, reporting text preparation.
  6. Safety – leading and participating in field meetings, oversight of subcontractors, contributing to and following safe work practices, developing/following/implementing safety plans on a day-to-day basis, recognizing hazards, confidence in exercising stop work authority.
