The hospital serves 45,000 patients per year with 24/7/365 emergency services, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dialysis, mental health programs and restorative seniors care. Department Description The goal of the Infection Prevention & Control program is to prevent infections in patients and staff and to control infections when they occur. Isolation precautions relocate patients to special rooms with signs alerting staff, doctors and visitors to wear gowns, gloves or masks as necessary. Position Summary The Infection Prevention & Control Department is seeking a Temporary Full‑Time Infection Control Practitioner Nurse to join the team. Effective Date: November 17, 2025. End Date: June 7, 2027. Responsibilities Conduct surveillance activities according to established criteria and evidence‑based research. Collect and input data into the computer. Provide consultation to all clinical and non‑clinical areas on matters of infection prevention and control. Provide education in‑services to staff, physicians and volunteers on infection prevention and control precautions. Conduct infection control compliance audits, monitor actions, recommend strategies and direct healthcare workers as necessary to create positive outcomes. Keep current with infection control literature, standards and guidelines. Investigate and participate in outbreak investigations and implement interventions to control outbreak situations. Essential Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN); current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing. Experience working in a clinical area for at least three (3) years. IPAC Certification or current enrollment with commitment to completion within 6 months. Demonstrated strong organizational and problem‑solving skills. Demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of adult education. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with knowledge of patient care practices, asepsis, infection control issues, outbreak investigation, surveillance and research techniques. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Working knowledge of computer word processing and patient and lab information systems. Preferred Qualifications Minimum one year working in Infection Prevention and Control. Hours of Work Must be available to work all shifts, Monday to Sunday. Shift hours may change according to departmental requirements and the ONA collective agreement.
