Postdoctoral Position in Computational Psychiatry (Real-World Applications of AI and Machine Learning on Health Data) The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Alberta in Edmonton is recruiting two postdoctoral fellows in computational psychiatry focusing on Real‑World Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) on Health Data (e.g., claims, prescriptions, emergency visits, hospitalization records, laboratory tests, clinical, behavioral and cognitive assessments, surveys). The aim of the projects is to improve health outcomes and facilitate evidence‑based decision making about mental and substance use disorders and other adverse outcomes (e.g., overdose) for clinicians, health service providers and policymakers through the translation and implementation of AI and ML beyond research settings. Responsibilities Lead and participate in research applying advanced statistical, AI and ML techniques to large population health data of patients with mental and substance use disorders. Develop individualized prediction models of mental and substance use disorders and overdoses, and associated health and economic outcomes using health, survey and biological data. Implement ML models through interactions with multiple stakeholders, including people with lived experience. Oversee several research projects, prepare research grant proposals, and supervise and train other personnel, including technologists and graduate students. Collaborate with partners in Alberta Government ministries, Alberta Health Services, Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton, and international partners. Publish in peer‑reviewed journals and seek prestigious fellowships and research awards. Qualifications Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/PhD) in computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, psychiatry, psychology or statistics. Clinical or health research experience and strong coding or analytical skills. Fluency in English; for non‑native speakers IELTS scores required. Experience with large‑scale health data, vision for precision and personalized mental health, strong scientific writing and communication skills, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
