This will be a joint appointment between the Cinema Studies Institute (75%) and Innis College (25%) at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Responsibilities and Requirements Qualifications: PhD in Cinema and Media Studies or a related area by the time of appointment; demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Responsibilities: pursue innovative and independent research in sound in cinema and media; teach and design courses that integrate historical and contemporary approaches to sound in film and media; develop innovative curricular models; engage in experiential pedagogical practices (e.g., technical/aesthetic instruction in sound, work with local cultural institutions, sound-based exploration of environments, digital humanities or research creation methods). Research & Teaching: evidence of research excellence (publications, research statement, conference presentations, awards, letters of reference) and teaching excellence (teaching dossier, statement, course materials, evaluations, and related evidence). Appointment Details Candidates must have earned a PhD by appointment time; salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue research on sound cultures and related topics across national and transnational contexts.
