Department: Academic Operations and Planning Position Type: Full‑Time Support Salary Range: $33.55–$38.88 hourly Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25 Anticipated Start Date: December 15, 2025 Length of Contract: 4 months Posting Closing Date: November 19, 2025 Job Description The Budget Officer, reporting to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives, supports the finance and accounting functions in the Academic Operations and Planning department. The primary function will be to support Applied Research, Experiential Learning and Entrepreneurship and the other areas reporting to the Manager, Strategic Initiatives. The incumbent supports the decision making process for the department by providing daily financial management and tracking, including but not limited to tracking project expenditures, opening all cost centres, input of journal entries into Workday, functioning as an expense officer, supporting accounts receivable/payable and purchasing activities of the department, monitoring the Aged Receivable report, tracking and supporting Capital Asset tracking, and acting as support for the Senior Financial Analyst. Assists the Financial Reporting and Operational Budgets by preparing monthly/quarterly and year‑end financial statements, downloading all month‑end reports to the shared point directory, reconciling the monthly Applied Research Deferral entry, and providing assistance with the CBC and yearly budget. Reporting and administrative tasks include assistance in the development of processes/spreadsheets, extracting information from college systems, and protecting the integrity of all departmental financial data. This position is privy to confidential information and is bound by the privacy directives of Algonquin College. Required Qualifications Minimum three (3) year degree/diploma in Business, Finance or Accounting or another discipline if combined with pursuit of professional accounting designation. Minimum three (3) years related experience in finance positions with increasing responsibilities in providing financial analytics to senior level administrators. Ability to maintain standards for efficiency and effectiveness. Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills. Experience in Workday or a similar software. Experience in Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable and Purchasing. Experience in working with projects and project management. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with college employees of all levels and outside clients. This position is paid at Payband G. Vacancy is for P22748.
