HVAC Refrigeration Technician – Black & McDonald Limited Black & McDonald Limited is currently seeking an experienced HVAC Refrigeration Technician to join our team. The position is located at the Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC), at Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, BC, and reports directly to the Facility Manager. Responsibilities Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot all HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment within the TACC. Perform preventive, corrective, and demand maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Inspect, install, repair, and replace equipment components and faulty parts, including BAS components. Respond to environment and comfort complaints and keep accurate maintenance records. Maintain, overhaul, and repair automatic temperature controls, VAV boxes, heat exchangers, and other related equipment. Complete new installations and alterations, read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications. Observe and implement safety regulations, applicable provincial and federal statutes, and municipal by‑laws. Ensure HVAC and refrigeration system stocks are kept in a secure location and inventory levels are maintained and recorded. Participate and support other duties as assigned, including assisting other maintenance trades. Work standard hours, stand‑by hours, shift work, and overtime as required. Competency Requirements Communicates Effectively Continuous Learning Customer Focus Problem Solving and Innovation Values and Respects Others Education Requirements Valid BC or Inter Provincial HVAC Journeyman trade ticket. Limited electrical license. Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration codes, Health and Safety Act, and all applicable CSA Codes. Work Experience Requirements A minimum of 5 years’ experience in institutional HVAC and refrigeration equipment maintenance, preferably in a hospital environment. Working knowledge of building services, including air conditioning, BAS, refrigeration, and electrical and mechanical equipment controls and systems. Skills, Abilities, And Other Requirements Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act provisions and related regulations. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Follow written and verbal instructions. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customers. A team player committed to quality performance. Adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards. Act in accordance with the commitment to safe and compassionate patient care. Bending and lifting under 30 kg; work on ladder or scaffold at various heights. Expected Compensation $49.92 per hour in accordance with the UA Local 516 union rates.
