GIS System Architect

Ottawa’s Protak Consulting Group Inc. is seeking an experienced GIS System Architect for a new full-time, on-site government project. This is a contract opportunity. Tasks/Responsibilities Attend a kick-off meeting with key stakeholders to collect the information and discuss requirement priorities within the five (5) days of contract award. Provide operational, technical and analytical expertise to GIS projects. Create and provide presentations to senior management and other project and non-project teams to explain the recommended solution to be deployed in the cloud-based architecture. Provide enterprise GIS architecture advice and recommendations for both systems on-premise and in the GC cloud. Development of Project Documentation (build books and run books), Project Specifications, and contribute to implementation planning. Respond to and resolve incidents from creation to resolution as they occur. Deliverables Project documentation that describes the application solutions. Concept of Operations document. Project Specifications and Standards. Scripts and templates for application deployment and automation procedures. Provide draft and final presentation of cloud based solutions for PA comments and approval. Monthly progress reports detailing status of deliverables. Level of Effort: 230 working days per year. Payment will be for days actually worked with no provision for annual leave, statutory holidays and/or sick leave. Estimated Contract Period: Initial 1-year contract may extend up to 3+ years. Language of Work: English – Fluent/Advanced (Written, Spoken and Comprehension). Work Location: Work must be performed within Canada. The contractor may be required to report on-site in Ottawa. Qualifications Education A University degree or College diploma related to Geomatics, GIS, Geography or another relevant field is required. Professional certifications related to Geomatics or GIS systems are an asset. Experience A minimum of 10 years of professional experience as a GIS System Architect is required. This is a Senior-level position. Must have completed a minimum of 2 non-concurrent GIS System Architect projects including designing, implementing and operational handover experience using ESRI Enterprise GIS software within the last 60 months. Must have experience as a GIS System Architect using commercial solutions other than ESRI products such as GeoCortex, FME, CARIS, GeoMedia, MapInfo, and Oracle Spatial, or open source software such as QGIS, GeoServer, GeoNetwork, PostGIS and OpenLayers. Must have experience as a Lead Architect on GIS architecture solutions projects. Must have a minimum of 60 months’ experience within the last 10 years in all of the following: IT project experience, Project Management, GIS web application design, Relational database architecture and design, GIS solutions development (on premise) and GIS solutions development (in Cloud). Must have 10 years of experience within the last 15 years providing architecture services including designing, implementing and operational handover for GIS projects. Security Clearance (Strictly Required): A minimum security clearance level of Reliability Status is required.
