This role operates in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and Fraser Health Mission and Values.SalaryThe salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour.Job SummaryThe Psychiatric Liaison Nurse performs intake assessment, crisis intervention, and provides input into the care of psychiatric and concurrent disordered patients in the Emergency Department. Works with interprofessional teams and supports patient flow, discharge planning, and transition to aftercare where appropriate. May provide short-term follow-up treatment and case management services.ResponsibilitiesScreens psychiatric referrals from internal and external sources; determines service priorities and collaborates with Emergency Department staff to identify potential referrals.Performs psychosocial assessments and collects collateral information (support groups, social environment, housing, finances, health service access, legal issues).Develops care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Room Physician or consulting psychiatrist; provides general and crisis counselling to patients and families, including short-term crisis follow-up.Provides short-term follow-up treatment and case management services as appropriate.Communicates with interprofessional care team regarding patient care issues, discharge planning, and referrals to other services.Provides patient advocacy with other agencies and services.Documents assessments, care plans, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards.Maintains electronic Psychiatric Liaison Contact Sheets and participates in patient care conferences for discharge planning and linkages to community services.Liaises with departments and professionals to facilitate aftercare and transition; assists patients and families to access community resources.Provides guidance to hospital staff on violence de-escalation, suicide prevention, seclusion, and restraint practices; ensures safe patient management and adherence to policies.Participates in quality improvement activities and contributes to policy and procedure recommendations.Identifies learning needs and pursues professional development with management support.Maintains a safe environment by adhering to safety and emergency procedures and participates in orientation and education of nursing staff and students as appropriate.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation and ExperienceGraduation from an approved school of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with BCCNM.
