Your Opportunity Stantec’s Electrical team is hiring an Electrical Power Engineer to join our growing team. A background in mining or heavy industrial and processing sectors is preferred. The successful candidate will primarily support mining work, with the opportunity to support projects across all of Energy & Resources. This unique position offers a strong interdisciplinary team that works on a variety of exciting Energy & Resources projects across North America and internationally, and provides an excellent career development opportunity. This is a full‑time position. Your Key Responsibilities Work within a multidisciplinary team of design and engineering professionals to deliver projects. Be a key member of the electrical team working with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects. Apply engineering knowledge and professional judgement to plan, size, evaluate, select, and specify electrical systems in accordance with relevant codes, standards and industry best practices. Conduct field investigations, liaise with clients, carry out detailed planning studies, prepare design calculations, author technical reports, deliver presentations to stakeholders, lead the development of construction packages (drawings and technical specifications), estimate construction costs, monitor and support construction, participate in commissioning, and contribute to business development activities. Work independently with minimal supervision and with a reflective mindset and a willingness to challenge both personal and teamwork. Safety is a core value for Stantec. Provide clients with engineering support to meet their needs and incorporate client suggestions for future requirements in a timely, efficient, and cost‑effective manner. Attend client meetings, which may at times be remote, and correspond directly with the client. Act as an Engineer‑of‑Record for projects and/or project components. Regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to execute projects. Review and analyze drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issuance to clients. Learn and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines. Power system design and analysis in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations. Incorporate innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate considering constructability and economics. Complete fit‑for‑purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests. Prepare quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables. Develop and complete power systems analysis models using ETAP, EasyPower and/or SKM. Report project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Designers or Project Managers. Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel). Your Capabilities and Credentials Participate and collaborate in project team setting and engage in creative and critical thought. Self‑starter with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. Contemplative and willing to challenge own work and the work of others. Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations. Check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere. Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or Owner’s team is an asset. Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience. Lead the preparation and coordination of electrical construction drawings, such as single line diagrams (SLDs), power and lighting plans, grounding and lightning protection plans, elevations, wiring diagrams, motor control schematics, riser diagrams, installation details, and schedules (panel schedules, cable schedules, etc.). Complete inspections and condition assessments for electrical and communications infrastructure (including climbing ladders and walking/standing for extended periods). Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. Professional Engineering license is required. 5+ years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Final compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
