Your Opportunity Dillon’s Water Resources discipline is looking for a Coastal Engineer‑In‑Training/Designer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. This position is available at our Kingston, North York, Oakville, Hamilton, Windsor, Saint John, Fredericton, and Halifax offices. We offer flexible work hours and remote working options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life. Responsibilities Support coastal engineering projects, providing technical assistance to project teams on multidisciplinary projects. Coordinate coastal engineering projects, including coastal erosion and protection, coastal flooding assessments, port and harbour development, and shoreline management planning. Conduct hydrotechnical assessments specifically for coastal environments, including wave transformation, storm surge modeling, and tidal analysis. Coordinate the coastal engineering components of diverse multidisciplinary projects, from small studies to large‑scale infrastructure developments. Develop and contribute to field investigations, data collection programmes, and monitoring programmes for coastal projects. Liaise effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, environmental scientists, planners, and other technical specialists. Learning and Development Commit to self‑development and ongoing learning and professional development. Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees. Qualifications Undergraduate degree or diploma in civil, environmental, coastal engineering, or a closely related engineering field from an accredited university or college. One to two years of work experience in the consulting industry is preferred, although entry‑level staff will also be considered. Experience Familiarity with scripting software such as MATLAB or Python is considered an asset. Familiarity with Delft3D is considered an asset. Familiarity with other coastal hydrodynamic and numerical modelling suites is considered an asset. Experience in project design or construction involving coastal structures, ecosystem restoration, and/or navigation and dredging. Knowledge of design guidelines, codes, and standards related to coastal and marine engineering. Ability to clearly document the basis of design and design development, including data analysis, assumptions, calculations, and conclusions. Experience in the application of climate change considerations and sea‑level rise projections in coastal engineering design and planning. Familiarity with coastal risk assessments, including storm surge inundation mapping and vulnerability analysis. Ability to effectively collaborate with a team of coastal, marine, and geotechnical engineers; coastal and ecological scientists; geomatics specialists; CAD drafters; and surveyors. Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential for report writing, presentations, and client interactions.
