Job Summary Working under the direction of the Chief Projects Engineer, the Instrument/Electrical Engineer will provide technical support to improve and troubleshoot the plant electrical and electronic systems in power distribution and control instrumentation. The incumbent will develop projects from inception through AFE development to installation, and will work jointly with the Construction group to achieve successful field completion and implementation of capital projects. Major Responsibilities Demonstrate leadership and contribute positively to the facility safety culture through active participation in EHS safety programs and initiatives. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, abilities, and attributes to perform successfully at CF in key areas of People, Results, Thought, and Self Leadership. Knowledge of relevant codes and standards related to IAS/DCS systems such as IEC 61511. Experience with Yokogawa control systems or other similar IAS, such as Honeywell or DeltaV. Create and review technical documentation: project execution plans, specifications, and design documents including: Control Architecture / Communication Network drawings Loop drawings, IO schematics, IO lists Shutdown keys Control narratives Logic diagrams P&ID development Instrument datasheets Perform instrument selection, sizing, and procurement to meet project and industry standards. Design and implement control system architectures, including PLC/DCS systems and HMI configurations. Collaborate with multi‑discipline teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation and controls into overall project designs. Work comfortably in operating industrial facility environments. Design, develop, and test new control systems and maintain or modify existing systems. Identify technology and innovation opportunities in instrumentation, process control, automation, and data analytics. Provide occasional on‑call support with flexibility to work irregular hours for smooth project implementation and prompt facility issue resolution. Have some experience with PLCs. Support equipment obsolescence program by researching and evaluating suitable alternatives. Provide day‑to‑day I&E technical support for departments such as Maintenance, EHS, Procurement, etc., to study improvement opportunities. Evaluate and screen plant improvement ideas by developing justifications, performing EHS risk analysis, and economic evaluations. Provide technical support for cross‑functional projects and maintenance by participating in equipment design reviews, inspections, quality control, and condition monitoring within areas of expertise. Conduct troubleshooting, revision, and installation projects involving process electronic instrumentation including DCS. Develop and lead approved projects through analysis, concept design, detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases. Support and follow Management of Change program before improvements are implemented. Communication, Coordination & Reporting Work effectively with all Engineering department parties; maintain open lines of communication. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Production Department members through daily interaction and plant activity involvement. Maintain contacts with onsite I&E Engineers at other sites, other company resources, and key vendors. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly project management activities including progress tracking, cash‑flow forecasting, and KPI management. Strong written and verbal skills are essential. Self/Staff Development Maintain ongoing familiarity with all procedures, equipment, and processes through personal initiative. Identify areas for self‑improvement and work with supervisor to initiate training. Stay up to date with latest codes and standards. Productivity & Adaptability Responsible for activities across multiple assignments and studies of varying scope and priority; manage each to ensure orderly and timely progress. Understand and comply with corporate processes and procedures to support internal controls; identify and highlight deficiencies to the department manager. Support Continuous Improvement initiatives through teamwork and application of Quality Planning and Improvement Principles. Act as site contact for outside contractors working on plant site, following all requirements of CF’s Contractor Management Program. Travel within North America periodically as required for assigned projects. Provide assistance in plant outages and/or turnarounds when requested, which may include a supervisory role during non‑standard hours. Position Qualifications Professional Engineer with 3‑5 years’ experience; ability to register with APEGA as a P.Eng. Or Certified Engineering Technologist with 5‑7 years’ experience in an industrial complex and willingness to register as a Professional Licensee with APEGA. Position Scope/Contribution The incumbent has direct impact on plant profitability and site efficiency. They focus on plant efficiency and I&E reliability, acting as gatekeeper for all new ideas to improve the plants, ensuring the company invests only in the best opportunities.
