ATCO Gas & Pipelines operates systems that transport natural gas across Alberta, delivering it everywhere from small towns to large industrial sites. Engineering work is completed to build and maintain this natural gas system.

Requirements:

  1. Enrolled in an engineering co-op (or internship) program at a recognized Canadian university
  2. Excellent computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite
  3. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly and concisely, using appropriate technical vocabulary
  4. Hold a valid Class 5 driver's license

What you get to do:

Stream 1 – Engineering Project Execution

Work Boots Level = Medium

Focus on management and design work for individual engineering projects. This includes designing site-specific upgrades, replacements, and new installations for the natural gas system.

Typical Tasks:

  1. Review and prepare design drawings
  2. Prepare installation procedures and design calculations
  3. Prepare and manage cost estimates, spending forecasts, and project schedules
  4. Communicate and coordinate with various stakeholders, internal and external

Stream 2 – Engineering Strategy & Business Optimization

Work Boots Level = Low

Focus on supporting business strategy and optimization for the natural gas business unit. This includes improvements through process automation, data management, and analytics.

Typical Tasks:

  1. Lead and support initiatives aimed at business process and policy improvements in areas such as project management and engineering execution
  2. Lead and support tool and application development projects using software such as Microsoft Automate and PowerApps
  3. Inform business decisions through data management, modeling, analysis, and reporting using software (Excel, Power BI, etc.)
  4. Perform stakeholder engagement with functional groups across the natural gas business unit ranging from frontline staff to senior leadership

Stream 3 – Engineering Field Support

Work Boots Level = High

Focus on direct support to construction and operations. In this stream you have the opportunity to explore the connection between field groups and all engineering groups in the business unit.

Typical Tasks:

  1. Create schedules to meet project and field requirements
  2. Act as liaison for field and engineering groups including multiple site visits
  3. Review technical documentation to ensure quality and integrity of pipeline systems
  4. Manage contractors that execute natural gas projects
  5. Consult survey groups to assist in obtaining project relevant data

Stream 4 – Engineering System Design & Innovation

Work Boots Level = Low

Focus on company strategies surrounding technical and economic analysis of current, and future, pipeline systems, equipment, and materials.

Typical Tasks:

  1. Research, testing, and development of emerging technologies
  2. Perform hydraulic modelling, business case preparation, long term development plan preparation
