The Director, FMC Power Plant of the Calgary Zone is a key leadership role in the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering, Capital Management portfolio, and reports directly to the Zone Director, FM&E Calgary Zone. This position is responsible for providing direction, leadership, and organization over the activities of the department, in support of the vision, mission, and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities will be carried out with an overarching focus on staff, patient, and public safety. This includes the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. The position is also responsible for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of the department.
Description:
The Director, FMC Power Plant will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in order to provide leadership to the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering department. The Director FMC Power Plant is also responsible for:
- Effectively leading and developing a team of Managers, including front line staff consisting of trades and maintenance workers through the safe and efficient maintenance of existing infrastructure.
- Ensuring the successful implementation of strategic initiatives that are deemed a priority for FM&E and AHS.
- Regulating a first-class power plant and related systems utilizing initiative and judgment in accordance with regulatory bodies (ABSA) and legislative requirements and limitations, policies and procedures, based on a 24/7 operation.
- Steward of fiscal and budget obligations.
- Development and enhancement of excellent client relationships.
- Providing input into functional planning, detailed design, and construction activities within the site.

Required Qualifications:
- Must have 1st Class Power Engineer Certificate of competency administered by ABSA.
- 2-year technical institute diploma in Power Engineering Technology would be considered an asset.
- Management/supervisory training and education as an asset, Certified Facility Manager (CFM designation).
- Must have a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity in hospitals, institutions, or industrial sites of significant size, complexity, and diversity.
- Managing in a union environment would be considered an asset.
- Eligible to become CET or RET or member of APEGGA.
