Junior Environmental Scientist

OverviewVertex is currently accepting applications for full-time permanent and temporary Junior Environmental Scientists to join our team. The successful candidate must have previous experience with environmental monitoring and a strong understanding of soil salvage. This position will be required to work closely with contractors while monitoring activities and ensuring environmental regulations are being complied with at all times.Candidate QualificationsDiploma and/or Bachelor’s degree in Land Reclamation, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Forestry or another applicable field1-3 years previous experience working in a mine setting conducting soil salvage and placement activitiesExperience creating detailed maps displaying soil salvage and placementUnderstanding of soil classification, soil handling, and soil placementExperience working with contractorsDemonstrated leadership, communication, and decision-making skillsAbility to work independently and in a teamStrong interpersonal skillsCompetent with Word and ExcelWilling to learn and assume more responsibility as the project and position evolvesValid driver’s license with a clean abstractFarming/agriculture background an assetExperience with 1/2 and 3/4 tonne trucks or large equipment operation an assetResponsibilitiesMonitoring soil salvage and placement operationsDaily interaction with contractors and enforcement of environmental regulationsConducting soil quality assessmentsDriving in a mine and/or off-road conditionsDaily field reportingData management (data tables, borehole logs, photographs, inputting field data sheets)Other duties, as requiredLocationWork location is Fort McMurray, AlbertaAdditional InformationCompensation is commensurate with education and experienceApply NowWith a track record of success, Vertex provides a fast-paced environment where people thrive.
