This course, designed for native or near-native speakers of Mandarin Chinese, continues the study of rhetorical knowledge and critical thinking skills for effective academic reading and writing. It also prepares students for upper level courses which demand in-depth reading, writing, as well as professional presentation skills.
Estimated course enrolment: 60 Estimated TA support: None. Number of Positions: 2Class schedule:
Section 0101: Mondays and Wednesdays (11am-2pm)
Section 0201: Tuesdays and Thursdays (9am-12pm)

Sessional dates of appointment: July 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I - $9,457.90 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $9,930.79 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II - $10,121.77 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $10,326.62 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III - $10,362.76 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $10,570.02 inclusive of vacation pay (0.5 FCE)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications:Ph.D. in Chinese language pedagogy, literature, linguistics, or a related field is required.
Demonstrated knowledge in the area of second language acquisition or Chinese linguistics and experience teaching university-level Chinese language courses are required.
(Near-)native fluency in Mandarin Chinese is required.
Preferred qualifications:Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred.
Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; order all necessary readings.Application instructions:
