OverviewJoin to apply for the Analyst I role at Bureau Veritas North AmericaBasic Purpose: What is the overall function of the job?Results oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating ProceduresPerform analyses and complex sample preparation proficientlyGain full knowledge with respect to performing analytical procedures and related quality controlTo produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating ProceduresSample pick-up as applicable Key Accountability / ResponsibilitiesReview task board to plan and organize daily workFollow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when conducting following work:Perform sample preparation and procedure prior to analysesAnalysis of results. Where applicable, this may include statements of conformity or opinions and interpretationsIdentify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handlingPrepare standards and reagents and ensure adequate supplies are available by monitoring quantitiesEnsure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysisOperate and maintain all necessary instruments and equipment to complete tasksAssess and correct problems with all laboratory operations according to SOP guidelines and ISO 17025 regulation criteriaMeet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirementsIdentify and document all known sample deviations, non-conformances, and/or process deviations and report to the Supervisor and/or ManagerEmploy proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materialsProvide input to corrective action procedures and report problems and Corrective Actions to the SupervisorProvide Supervisor/Manager/Team Lead with updates on work status including advance notification of any delaysEvaluate and initiate problem solving in all areas of the laboratoryParticipate in developing Standard Operating Procedures and general work instructionsParticipate in the development / validation of new procedures and instruments, as requiredMonitor the laboratory to improve efficiencies and reduce costs in a continuous and ongoing fashionSupport and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety programParticipate, when requested in lab and Health & Safety meetingsParticipate, when requested in internal and external auditsProvide training and guidance to junior staffMaintain training records and relevant qualificationsKeeps work area clean, neat and organizedReporting to laboratory management on the performance of the management system and any need for improvementAll other responsibilities as assigned Skills and KnowledgePost-Secondary school education or equivalent experienceDemonstrated success in the role of a Laboratory TechnicianSound knowledge of sample handling procedures to ensure continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory procedures and quality assurance protocolsKnowledge of, and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precaution and using the appropriate PPEExcellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilitiesFlexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing prioritiesAccurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructionsDetail oriented with accurate record keeping skillsGood time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skillsStrong computer skillsPositive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environmentAdapts to a changing environmentWorks both independently and as part of a teamLearns quickly Work RelationshipsInternal: Customer Service, Sales, technical support groups, Human Resources, purchasing, buildings, management, staff from other locationsExternal: Some interaction with customers and clients Working ConditionsHigh level of work production in fast-paced lab environment. Can involve the repetition of the same process.
