Guided by the Divisions mission statement, vision, mandate, beliefs and values, the Director of Learning Supports and Services consults and works collaboratively with division and school personnel, parents/guardians, contracted service providers, and community partners to continually monitor, support, refine, and expand a unified and responsive continuum of supports and services to support the academic success, well-being and sense of belonging of every MHCBE student. The Director of Learning Supports and Services will have specific responsibilities for:

Educational Leadership Provide leadership in fostering conditions and supports which ensure all students with Alberta Special Education and English as an Additional Language codes have equal opportunity to meet the standards of education set by the Minister of Education.

Assist the Associate Superintendent of Learning Services in the monitoring, development and implementation of continuum of supports and services procedures, policies, and structures.

Provide data-informed recommendations to the Associate Superintendent of Learning Services regarding possible areas of focus, measures and strategies for strategic planning within areas of responsibility; possible actions to increase the effectiveness and efficient operations of programs, supports and services within areas of responsibility.

Participate in and collaborates with relevant organizations, committees and community partners (i.e. Alberta Education, CASS, SAPDC Advisory Committees, Local Health Authority, Disability Services, Community and Provincial Organizationsetc.) to stay abreast of changing trends, policies, practices, procedures, resources and professional learning opportunities.

Division Level Support/Responsibilities Collaborate with senior leadership, related services providers, and school personnel to optimize data -driven decision making, progress monitoring, and inclusive evidence-based supports and strategies with increasing intensity to ensure students have access to the Alberta Education curriculum and are engaged within the life of the classroom and school through a continuum of supports and services model. In collaboration with Associate Superintendent of Learning Services determine learning assistant allocations and staffing assignments;

plan and implement division offered/supported Learning Assistant professional development;

coordinate monthly Learning Support Team meetings and division-delivered professional learning for Learning Support Teachers.

Develop, coordinate and support implementation and use of Learning Service forms and workflows within the departments electronic forms and workflow platform. Coordinate screenings and assessments of students for Alberta Education Program Unit Funding qualifications. Review and monitor documentation and criteria to apply Alberta Education English as an Additional Language and Special Education codes to division students. Oversee and monitor external contracted services (OT, PT, Speech, TVI, DHH, and CCN) including making budget recommendations to the Associate Superintendent of Learning Services based on projected divisional needs. Oversee and provide implementation consultation/support for training programs, workshops, and seminars within areas of responsibility for administrators, teachers and Learning Assistant staff. Manage Early Learning Community-Based Supports and Services

Liaise with Community Preschool Directors to provide Program Unit Funding support to students and families in community daycares and preschools.

Oversee the allocation of Early Learning Support Teachers, Learning Assistants and contracted services in community sites.

Supervise and evaluate all MHCBE staff assigned to community sites.

Approval and tracking of student data (e.g., coding, supports) and forms (e.g., ISP, SRSP, Impact Statements) for students in community sites.

Manage Licensed Child Care Program Operations Ensure that all out-of-school and child care programs meet provincial licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and the division's educational and care policies. Create and update a common program plan template for schools to personalize. Serve as the primary liaison between school administration, program staff, families, and external regulatory agencies to ensure alignment with division goals and community needs. School-Based Support

Monitor and provide direction and support to school personnel, school-linked team members and contracted school services in the development and execution of an inclusive continuum of supports and services framework.

Oversee programming for students with complex disability-related needs grounded in a continuum of supports and services framework.

Coordinate the review, selection, purchasing/funding/loaning, implementation and training of assistive technologies (including AAC), specialized equipment, and modified materials in complex cases.

Serve as a school division representative in Tier 3 (Targeted) and 4 (Individualized) meetings and follow-up (including CPC meetings at elementary schools) within areas of responsibility.

Mentor and monitor school-based Learning Support Teachers in the fulfillment of their roles and responsibilities.

Investigate and facilitate resolution of concerns and conflicts within areas of responsibility. Other Responsibilities Other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent of Learning Services.
