Position Summary: Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean is accountable for providing academic and administrative leadership to the faculty and support staff in academic programming. They are responsible for planning, development, and delivery of postsecondary programs, as well as developing and overseeing apprenticeship programs and School College Work Initiative programs. The Associate Dean ensures that all programs meet the needs of students, community partners, businesses, and employers consistent with the College's mandate, mission, and priorities as set out in the Strategic and Academic Plans.
They serve as the main contact for faculty and programs assigned by the Dean, ensuring consistent application of policies. Responsibilities include all aspects of enrolment management and continuous quality improvement through program review and renewal within their area of responsibility, including meeting the expectations of outside accreditation bodies. They supervise faculty in accordance with the collective agreement and related academic processes, manage recruitment, workload assignments, and complaints.
The Associate Dean reviews budgets and program costing for assigned programs, creates new budgets for proposed programs, and conducts program analysis and reviews. They ensure budget guidelines are maintained and address any departmental variances. They oversee all SCWI budget activities and liaise with key business and community constituencies regarding new initiatives. The Associate Dean is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Division's projects that align with the College's Strategic and Academic Plan and Initiatives. They support workforce development and specific needs of industry and community stakeholders and sit on relevant internal or external committees as the administrative representative.
They also lead the School for Health and Safety requirements and develop the Apprenticeship Notional Seat Purchase Plan in consultation with the local Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities office.
Education Requirements:Minimum level of formal education required for the position: Post graduate degree (e.g., Masters) or equivalent. Specific course(s), certification, qualification, formal training, or accreditation required for the position include Team building, communications, decision-making, planning skills, conflict resolution and leadership, contract negotiation, project management, and customer service.
Experience:Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a post-secondary academic environment. Knowledge of and experience with the academic cycle, curriculum planning, program renewal, and performance-based learning methodologies. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; proven leadership skills; demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and projects; experience in managing teaching and learning processes.
