CA$70.00/hr - CA$100.00/hr

As a Sr. Mainframe z/OS System Programmer, you will provide technical direction and subject matter expertise to maintain stable and reliable environments for complex mainframe initiatives. You will collaborate with senior management to analyze risks, protect test environments, and present alternative solutions for high-impact projects. Your role will include technical leadership, client and vendor coordination, and adherence to best practices in system administration. Additionally, you will support team development, ensuring continuous professional growth and effective collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise
  1. Review and analyze client software and system requirements to determine optimal solutions.
  2. Install, upgrade, and customize ISV software tools in a multi-system z/OS mainframe environment.
  3. Ensure software and hardware currency to avoid End of Support costs.
  4. Maintain and optimize Parallel Sysplex, SMPE, RMF, SMF, WLM, and other critical mainframe components.
  5. Address technical show-stoppers and implement performance tuning strategies.
  6. Configure and manage z/OS security, JES2 customization, and PARMLIB settings.
Effective Communication
  1. Collaborate across infrastructure, development, and IT operations teams to support business objectives.
  2. Influence stakeholders to adopt security and operational resilience strategies.
  3. Document problem analysis, resolution, and prevention strategies using IBM and ISV tools.
  4. Participate in disaster recovery exercises and maintain DR readiness.
Relationship Management
  1. Work with application development, IT production support, and infrastructure teams to ensure system integrity.
  2. Partner with hardware and software vendors to implement new solutions.
  3. Develop strong business relationships, influencing key decision-makers for mutually beneficial outcomes.

Qualifications & Skills:

  1. 10+ years of experience in Mainframe technology, operating systems, or system programming.
  2. Expertise in IBM z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, SMPE, RMF, SMF, WLM, and zOSMF.
  3. Experience with DASD, VTL, TCP/IP, z14/z15 hardware, and coupling facilities.
  4. Strong understanding of network architecture and integration with external systems (FTP, SFTP, MQ, Web Services).
  5. Hands-on experience with LPAR builds, cloning, and mainframe data replication strategies.
  6. Knowledge of z/OS security, system performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning.
  7. Excellent troubleshooting, problem resolution, and communication skills.
