Description

Located out of our Calgary office, the individual in the Legal Counsel role will be a trusted business advisor within the Heartland business segment of Inter Pipeline, supporting the Heartland Petrochemical Complex and other petrochemical development. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, this key role within a high-performing team will provide an important legal resource on a wide variety of corporate and commercial matters, including all aspects of commercial transactions, contract interpretation, day-to-day legal advice for the business, supply chain contracts, and commercial dispute resolution.

Qualifications:
• Qualified to practice law in Alberta and be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.

Experience:
• 5-7 years of post-call experience related to corporate and commercial legal work

Skills:
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Legal research and contract drafting skills considered an asset
• Strong oral and written communication skills are very important for this role, as well as the ability to cultivate strong relationships and to support on a wide variety of initiatives
• Ability to provide practical advice to the business segment and work collaboratively with our business segment colleagues

Key Activities and Responsibilities:
• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts and provide context-appropriate legal advice to all groups within the Heartland business segment, including supply and commercial operations, operations, sales and marketing, supply chain, rail (transportation and logistics), regulatory, environment, and land
• Support the Associate General Counsel on large business development matters and transactions
• Work with internal clients to provide day-to-day operational and strategic advice
• Maintain a positive, results-focused attitude and be a key partner within the business team

Hours:
Full Time (Monday – Friday).

We are open to hire on a permanent or contract basis for this role.

As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
