Overview:

Our client, located in Listowel, ON, has an immediate opportunity for an EHS Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor and improve the Environmental Management System, ISO 14001, and the Occupational Health & Safety System
  2. Ensure the facility operates within applicable environmental and health and safety laws, regulations and policies
  3. Participate on the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee and Environmental Committee
  4. Develop and provide guidance on Environmental, Health, and Safety issues and policies
  5. Assist with facilitating environmental and health and safety training programs
  6. Act as a liaison for the facility regarding health and safety and environmental issues
  7. Coordinate health, safety, and environmental audits
  8. Ensure governmental reporting is completed on a timely basis
  9. Provide meaningful statistics to management in a timely manner to assist in continued improvement of environmental and workplace health and safety practices
  10. Assist in the health and safety evaluation of new machinery and make recommendations to Management to make new equipment safer
  11. Develop, implement, and facilitate where necessary training programs and/or training videos in support of the Health and Safety program
  12. Support, coach, counsel leaders in employee relations and legislative matters and assist in facilitating resolution with team member issues. When necessary, participate in the performance management and corrective action process
  13. Daily plant safety audits and activities designed to monitor the effectiveness of the company’s EHS programs
  14. Contact person for the MOL for onsite investigations and reporting of critical injuries
  15. Assist in health and safety training for areas such as new hire orientation, WHMIS, Lift Truck, Tugger, Cranes, Respirator training, Fire Prevention, Safe Solvent Handling, Isocyanates, etc.
  16. Maintenance of the Hazard Communications System, WHMIS (SDS’s), Hazard Alerts preparation
  17. Develop and deliver SOS safety talks
  18. Ensure medical surveillance testing is scheduled for paint department team members on an annual basis
  19. Air quality and noise testing is scheduled as required
  20. Field health and safety concerns where necessary
  21. Reporting accidents, accident trends, and countermeasures to Management, JHSC and team members on a daily and monthly basis
  22. OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System
  23. Implementation and maintenance of the system according to regulations
  24. Monthly reporting of accident summary and EHS report
  25. Work with the AGM, Corporate Administration to determine overall objectives and goals for EH&S and HR, along with reviewing policies and procedures
  26. Coach and mentor direct reports to achieve professional growth and development

Qualifications:

  • University or College degree/diploma preferably in Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or EH&S Management Program
  • Completion of or progress towards Part 1 & Part 2 H&S Certification an asset
  • Certification as a trainer or auditor for ISO, including WHMIS and IRS (Internal Responsibility System) legislation is an asset
  • Experience with environmental or safety improvement projects in a manufacturing setting is an asset
  • Solid comprehension of current health and safety and environmental legislation
  • Able to successfully communicate with all levels in the organization
  • Capable of effectively designing and delivering training programs
  • Possesses excellent organization skills essential for maintaining systems
  • Proven ability dealing with government agencies (MOL & MOE)
  • Previous supervisory managing a team of H&S professionals
  • Effective Project Management skills
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
