Upholstery Specialist

The Upholstery Specialist position is a key role within our Upholstery department and new product development. Exceptional analysis and execution skills are a necessity in this role with the ability to design and plan upholstered products with attention to fine detail. Working in collaboration with our skilled upholsters and sharing keen insight in understanding the core knowledge to roll out new designs.
Mission
The main purpose of this position is to ensure a smooth transition in the pre-design stage to finished product in our upholstery department.
Pay for this position starts at $26/hour and is Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Upholstery manager/supervisor on the fabrication and assembly of upholstery work to ensure efficiency to the department and that the customer order needs are met within the pre-scheduled timeframes.
- Work with the UPH staff and leadership team on teaching new techniques and technical precision on current and new product lines.
- Improvements to department functions, assist the Upholstery manager/supervisor in areas of quality output, and work with the team on new techniques to increase quality of our finished product and efficiencies in the department.
- Keen knowledge in the technical requirements, ensuring proper functionality and comfort for end-users.
- Select tools for each upholstery project based on technical requirements, level of intricacy and design specifications.
- Measure and cut fabric with precision to ensure a perfect fit, particularly for complex upholstery pattern making.
- Attach and secure fabric to furniture frames using advanced upholstery techniques, including sewing, stapling, and padding.
- Collaborate closely with designers, upholsterers, and other team members to ensure technical standards are met and maintained across all projects.
- Work with the cutters and UPH team on any fabric issues or concerns so operations can be planned accordingly.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and work orders.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges independently.
- Work with the Product Design team on new product ideas to further our brand and options to our customers.
- Work with the Sales team at both Holsag Canada Inc. and Mity Inc. on product designs, and achievable expectations of the upholstery department.
- Consistently looking at ways to add value and continuous improvements and should also take ownership in their role and to grow and develop personally and professionally, and to help others in doing this as well.
- Identify any CAPEX needs within the upholstery department and discuss with the upholstery manager for value added.

Qualifications:
The following are qualifications that are necessary for a person to be considered for this position:
5 years in upholstery manufacturing experience.
