Description: Reporting to a supervisor, this position involves lifeguarding and instructional duties at both outdoor and indoor aquatic facilities. The role encompasses a range of tasks including operational duties, lifeguarding, instructional activities, and maintenance work, all aimed at delivering engaging and safe aquatic programs for all age groups. Employees are expected to follow established practices and procedures while interacting with customers. The goal is to create a positive, enjoyable environment that promotes excellence in program delivery.

  • Candidates must be available for physical standard testing on one of the following days: September 27, September 28, or September 29
  • Candidates who successfully complete the physical standards are required to attend the interview session on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Part-time Aquatic Leaders are required to work a minimum of two days per week

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Performs lifeguard duties, ensuring the safety of patrons utilizing the aquatic facility and supervising the use of the swimming and related recreation areas
  • Instructs, facilitates, and participates in the delivery of a variety of aquatic recreation programs and services within established standards and guidelines, for all ages and for a variety of community groups and individuals with special needs
  • Prevents accidents or injury where possible and provides effective first aid treatment and follow-up in the event of accident or injury in and around the recreation facility
  • Prepares individual program plans for review by a supervisor for assigned recreation programs and services
  • Performs basic cleaning maintenance duties as assigned (i.e., hosing deck, hosing changerooms, cleaning staff areas, and cleaning steam room). Ensures that maintenance tasks are signed off upon completion

The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • NLS – Pool Option
  • CPR Level “C”
  • Standard First Aid
  • Water Safety Instructor
  • Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifesaving, artificial respiration, aquatic emergency procedures, and first aid
  • Working knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques emphasizing instruction in water safety and aquatic skills
  • Some knowledge of pool chemistry, water filtration, chlorination, heated and related pool equipment and procedures
